Fluxgate Compass
Question:
I am having the Raymarine ST 70 auto pilot mounted tomorrow. Where exactly on your 355 is your fluxgate compass mounted ? It's part of the auto pilot system and needs a central location away fro other magnetic stuff. I would appreciate your feedback.
Answer: The fluxgate compass on the factory installed boats (at least mine) is in the starboard lazarette and mounted on the transom wall. It is fairly high from the recommended location from Ray Marine. RM recommends placing it within a 3 degree point of centerline. However, I believe the reason the factory located it where they did is because if it was low and on center, there would be significant interference from the steering quadrant. I can say that the location has not been a problem for me. The AP tracks extremely well and I haven’t had any problems with it.
